PCT Patent Information

What is a PCT Patent?

PCT stands for Patent Cooperation Treaty.  The PCT simplifies patent protection for an invention by providing a means to simultaneously file a single “international” patent application instead of filing several separate national or regional patent applications.  In order to obtain patent protection internationally, the PCT application then needs to nationalize in the select countries that participate in the PCT within an allotted time frame which is normally 30 months from the priority date. MPP can help you make this determination.

What is the deadline to file a PCT?

A PCT must be filed within the first 12 month period from the filing date of the first application filed.

Do I need to file a PCT or a U.S. non-provisional?

This is highly dependent on your business goals and stage.  We recommend speaking with one of our expert patent agents to make this determination before moving forward.
